Overview
The HPE J9826A is a 5412R zl2 series modular switch chassis, engineered as a high-performance Layer 3 aggregation and core solution for enterprise campus and data center environments. Its primary purpose is to provide a highly resilient and scalable foundation for unified wired and wireless network access. It addresses the need for high-density PoE+ connectivity and flexible, high-speed uplinks to support bandwidth-intensive applications and the proliferation of IoT devices and high-speed 802.11ac/ax wireless access points. Based on a powerful ProVision ASIC, the J9826A features a non-blocking, 2 Tbps crossbar switching fabric that delivers line-rate performance with very low latency (under 2.1 μs). This architecture ensures predictable throughput for demanding applications. The chassis supports Virtual Switching Framework (VSF) stacking technology, which allows two 5400R series switches to be virtualized into a single logical device. This simplifies management and provides hitless failover for mission-critical network services without the complexity of legacy protocols like STP or VRRP. Designed for placement in a distribution frame or at the top-of-rack, the 7U chassis offers 12 open module slots for extensive customization of port types and densities. The initial configuration includes 92 RJ-45 10/100/1000 PoE+ ports and 4 SFP slots. Management is highly flexible, offering a robust command-line interface (CLI), REST API for programmability, and seamless integration with network management platforms like Aruba AirWave, Aruba Central (cloud-based), and Aruba ClearPass Policy Manager for advanced security and unified policy enforcement.
