HPE JL438A 10 Gigabit SFP+ Transceiver Module 10GBASE-LRM MMF
Overview
The HPE JL438A is a 10-Gigabit small-form-factor pluggable plus (SFP+) optical transceiver module engineered for use over multimode fibre (MMF) using the 10GBASE-LRM specification. It uses a wavelength of 1310 nm and is rated for up to approximately 200-220 metres on OM3/OM4 multimode fibre. You’d deploy this in scenarios where you need to upgrade fibre links in a campus or data-centre environment to 10 Gb but the existing fibre is multimode and you don’t want to re-cable with single-mode. It fits into standard SFP+ cages in HPE/Aruba switches, providing a cost-effective way to get 10 Gb links over MMF infrastructure rather than needing single-mode optics.
Key Features
-
10 Gbps data rate over the SFP+ form-factor supports high-bandwidth uplinks and optical fibre trunking.
-
Operates at 1310 nm over multimode fibre under the 10GBASE-LRM standard, rated up to ~220 metres (depending on fibre type and conditions).
-
Duplex LC connector, hot-swappable SFP+ module—fits HPE/Aruba platforms with SFP+ ports and allows fibre-link upgrades without replacing hosts.
-
Designed as a long-reach multimode option for 10G, enabling reuse of existing MMF infrastructure while avoiding the cost of SMF optics.
