Overview

The HPE JH648A is a 1-Gigabit small-form-factor pluggable (SFP) optical transceiver designed for enterprise fibre links in access or aggregation networks. It uses the 1000BASE-SX standard over multimode fibre, supports an 850 nm wavelength and is rated for distances up to approximately 550 m in multimode fibre environments. This module plugs into standard SFP slots in HPE/Arista switches and similar equipment, enabling cost-effective fibre uplinks where copper is undesirable or impractical. A typical use case: connecting wiring-closet switches to building backbone fibre or linking access switches in a campus across a short multistory building.
