Overview

The HPE JG894A is a high-performance, top-of-rack (ToR), Layer 3 data center switch designed for server access in large enterprise environments. It addresses the need for cost-effective, high-density 1GbE server connectivity with flexible 10GbE and 40GbE uplinks, making it ideal for deployments requiring ultra-low latency for demanding, virtualized applications and server-to-server traffic. Engineered for performance, the JG894A provides a switching capacity of 336 Gbps and a forwarding rate of up to 250 Mpps. Its architecture supports cut-through switching with latency under 1.5 microseconds for 10GbE, minimizing delays for sensitive workloads. The switch also supports HPE’s Intelligent Resilient Framework (IRF) technology, which allows up to nine switches to be virtualized and managed as a single logical device, drastically simplifying network architecture and improving resiliency. This switch is designed for placement at the server access layer in a standard 1U rack-mountable form factor. Management is versatile, offering a full command-line interface (CLI), web-based management, and support for SNMP protocols. Its robust feature set, including support for Data Center Bridging (DCB) and Fibre Channel over Ethernet (FCoE), ensures it can handle converged traffic in modern data center fabrics.
